Custom post type not showing in wp_posts table in database using navicat or PHPmyadmin

This is really weird. I created a custom post type and saved a few posts using it. Then I managed to edit and update them. When I came to look in the database for the rows I cant find them. I used naviacat and PHPmyadmin to check the tables but both gave the same results. How can wordpress manage custom post types that don't exist in the database???

Also another weird thing I tried to create some options and they don't allow me to create anything using add_option or update_option. So I suspect there is something wrong with my settings somewhere.
