Email notification markup problem?

I am trying to adjust the code in an email notification plugin. One of the problems that I have encountered is that the output in the WP editor shows the correct markup but when it gets to Outlook it changes the quotes (") to (\"). Is there anything I could have done to cause this? Is this normal and I am not formatting the html in the editor right?
